TRAINING OF SCHOOL ENTREPRENEURIAL MENTORS

The Novo mesto Development Center takes care of its network of school entrepreneurship mentor-teachers in South-Eastern Slovenia. Once again, we followed the wishes and suggestions of the mentors when choosing the training program, as it is in the interest of all of us that teachers are armed with the knowledge and skills that they need to achieve the best results with their student teams.

The training, which took place on Aug 30, 2021, at the Podbreznik Business Incubator, consisted of workshops, lectures and best practice sharing. The workshops focused on three topics, namely “how to attract as many participants as possible to entrepreneurial activities”, “suggestions for effective management of entrepreneurship clubs” and “how to effectively use the acquired funds”. The workshops were led by Anja Jakše, Blaž Zupan and Janez Gorenc. Workshops were followed by a lecture by Blaž Zupan on the preparation of a financial plan for school entrepreneurship teams. The mentors learned the basics of accounting and how to calculate the price of goods sold, and how to determine its market price. The final part of the training program took place at Matjaž’s Homestead in Paha near Novo mesto, where the owner, Mr. Matjaž Pavlin, presented his entrepreneurial story.

Despite a rather unfortunate date – many schools had introductory pedagogical conferences – eighteen mentors from nine primary school, one secondary school, and one vocational college attended the training. With this, the Novo mesto Development Center and its mentor teachers stepped into the new school year and towards new challenges. This, of course, is not the end of the training story, as it will be followed by individual counseling in schools and assistance in the preparation and implementation of entrepreneurship events and competitions.
