On 23 September, on the occasion of the Slovenian Sport Day, which also highlights the importance of recreation and a healthy lifestyle from a very young age, the Director of the Novo mesto Development Centre, Franci Bratkovič, and the Mayor of the Municipality of Novo mesto, mag. Gregor Macedoni, in the company of children, opened a new playground for our little ones at Portoval (on the lawn by the pump track).
The playground, surrounded by a fence to make it safer, features various play equipment to encourage children to move around and develop their skills. “The playground, which is the fruit of a successful cooperation between the Novo mesto Municipality and the Novo mesto Development Centre, was created within the framework of the international project Wonder, whose partners come from Slovenia (Novo mesto Development Centre), Italy, Croatia, Albania, Greece and Montenegro. One of the objectives of this project is to develop child-friendly destinations and the wish for Dolenjska is to further develop this type of products that will attract young families,” said Vesna Maksimović, Wonder project manager at the Novo mesto Development Centre. The project has organised several different workshops on the theme ”Dolenjska region – a family-friendly destination”.
The main results of the project are:
- a new tourist offer aimed at children and families
- a WONDER Action Plan and
- a transnational network of child-friendly destinations.
The playground completes both the sports and tourist offer in Portoval. In order to make it as accessible as possible to tourists (both local and foreign), the project is also producing a promotional film to show how a family can spend a wonderful holiday here. Of course, we will use it to promote the town and Dolenjska region.
