It takes a whole village to raise one child, they used to say. We started implementing the PoMP – Fostering Entrepreneurship Skills in Schools project in June of this year, and who would have thought what kind of changes “for the education of children” will be achieved in this short time?
In a project from the Education, Scholarships, Apprenticeship, and Youth Entrepreneurship program, supported by the Norwegian Financial Mechanism, the most important goal is to train teachers to mentor young people in entrepreneurship. But at the same time, the partners of the Primorska Technology Park, Development center of Novo mesto, Norwegian University of Science and Technology NTNU, SAŠA Incubator, Technology Park Ljubljana, and Scientific Research Center Bistra Ptuj are aware that this type of work with young people requires the support of the entire school and its environment.
At the very beginning of the project, we first contacted the principals of the schools that we would like to include in our activities. We prepared a two-day Think Tank workshop for them in September, in which they were trained in the direction of entrepreneurship, because as principals they still need it, both for running the school and for motivating teachers to become mentors in the PoMP project. And teachers will need motivation, because now an activity called the PoMP Academy is coming up. In it, we will train teachers so that they can independently carry out entrepreneurial activities for young people.
Since such an academy requires a lot of coordination and knowledge, the project partners met on December 5 at the Podbreznik Business Incubator, where we weighed options and ideas regarding the implementation of teacher training. We still have a lot of work to do, but we have pretty good guidelines and even better ideas.
The PoMP project is a two-year project in which many activities for principals, teachers, and students take place, such as the Think Tank workshop for principals, the PoMP Academy for mentors, entrepreneurial activities for pupils and students, which will be carried out together with us by qualified mentors, and exchange of good practices with Norwegian partners. After the end of the project, we intend to establish a network of support environment, so that we will leave behind accumulated knowledge that future generations of mentors and students will be able to take advantage of.
In this way, we will make sure that the whole proverbial “village” really takes care of the training and education of schoolchildren, and that the effects of the training will be truly long-lasting and far-reaching.
